A note on perfect dissections of an equilateral triangle

چکیده
A perfect dissection of a polygon P into a polygon P ′ is a decomposition of P into internally disjoint pairwise incongruent polygons all similar to P ′. It is known that there is no perfect dissection of an equilateral triangle into smaller equilateral triangles. On the other hand, an equilateral triangle has trivial perfect dissections into any number n of right triangles where n ≥ 3. We give an example of a perfect dissection of an equilateral triangle into 7 non-right triangles and prove that 7 is the smallest number of tiles in such dissection.

On the Optimality of Napoleon Triangles
An elementary geometric construction, known as Napoleon’s theorem, produces an equilateral triangle, obtained from equilateral triangles erected on the sides of any initial triangle: The centers of the three equilateral triangles erected on the sides of the arbitrarily given original triangle, all outward or all inward, are the vertices of the new equilateral triangle. In this note, we observe ...
متن کاملStanding Waves: the Equilateral Triangle
It is well known that symmetry considerations can often be a powerful tool for simplifying physical systems. We consider a wave which satisfies the Helmholtz equation in a region with some given symmetry, and note that any solution can be transformed by that symmetry to give another solution. Using this simple observation we describe a number of necessary conditions for wave solutions. For boun...
متن کاملDissections of Polygons into Convex Polygons
In the paper we present purely combinatorial conditions that allow us to recognize the topological equivalence (or non-equivalence) of two given dissections. Using a computer program based on this result, we are able to generate a set which contains all topologically non-equivalent dissections of a p0-gon into convex pi-gons, i = 1, ..., n, where n, p0, ..., pn are integers such that n ≥ 2, pi ...
متن کاملClean formation and dynamic exchange reactions of a supramolecular equilateral triangle that is both heterometallic and heteroleptic.
The self-assembly of an equilateral triangle that is both heterobimetallic and heteroleptic, its metal exchange to a homometallic triangle and further ligand exchange (= edge of the triangle) were elaborated.

Every collection of n (arbitrary-oriented) unit squares can be packed translatively into any equilateral triangle of side length 2.3755 ̈ ? n. Let the coordinate system in the Euclidean plane be given. For 0 ≤ αi ă π{2, denote by Spαiq a square in the plane with sides of unit length and with an angle between the x-axis and a side of Spαiq equal to αi. Furthermore, let T psq be an equilateral tr...
